Cyber Essentials is a government-backed, industry supported scheme to help organisations protect themselves - and their customers - against common cyber attacks.
Although many of the requirements of the scheme are common-sense IT security, going through the process of certification forced us to look in detail at all areas of our business to ensure we are following best practice.
The scheme is relevant for any business that uses IT - not just those of us in the IT business. If you'd like to get your business certified too there are a number of organisations which can help.
Cyber Essentials is mandatory for central government contracts which involve handling personal information and providing certain ICT products and services - and will be required for all MoD suppliers from 1 January 2016.
For more information on the scheme, see Cyber Streetwise.
